Airlander 10, la aeronave más grande y de más capacidad del mundo

Cuando el príncipe de Eduardo, duque de Kent, reveló el nombre del dirigible Airlander 10 en la ceremonia de presentación en un hangar de Cardington, lugar en el que se fabricó el primer zepelin en 1918, hubo una mujer entre el público que quedó especialmente sorprendida; Martha Gwyn. Martha es la esposa de Philip Gwyn, presidente de Hybrid Air Vehicles, que es la empresa que fabrica esta aeronave, la más grande del mundo, y que tiene como objetivo para 2021 fabricar 10 dirigibles como estos al año. Martha Gwyn también es el nombre oficial que se le ha dado al Airlander 10. Decimos oficial porque por su aspecto, ha sido apodado ‘trasero gigante‘.

Anécdotas aparte, el Airlander 10 es la aeronave más grande y de más capacidad del mundo, y acaba de realizar su vuelo inaugural. Mide lo mismo que un campo de futbol y está llena de helio inerte, no inflamable, y de aire. Cuenta con cuatro mototres diésel y puede estar entre 5 días y 2 semanas en el aire, en función de si va tripulado o no. Su capacidad de carga es de 10 toneladas y es más silencioso y menos contaminante. Por si fuera poco, ya se está trabajando en su ‘hermano mayor, el Airlander 50, con capacidad de carga de 50 toneladas. Volviendo a las anécdotas, y cerrando el tema, el vocalista de Iron Maiden, que también es piloto, es uno de los inversores del proyecto.

Estos megaproyectos, tengan éxito o no, nos indican por dónde van los tiros en el futuro de la carga aérea, aunque será en el ‘Foro de carga 2016’ de la Asociación Internacional de Carga Aérea que tendrá lugar en París del 26 al 28 de octubre donde se podrá ver una imagen más detallada del posible comportamiento del mercado en los próximos años.
